Roger D Aines, PhD is Chief Scientist of the Energy Program at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), one of the U.S. Department of Energy labs that conducts government and private sector research in clean energy technology. He also leads LLNL’s Carbon Initiative, which aims to understand, develop, and implement technologies for the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, known as negative emissions technologies, and directs directs the LLNL program in developing better understanding of hydraulic fracturing and tools and methods around shale gas development.
